NPC
For the NPC’s I thought of quest givers so in a dungeon it could be that you and a number of people got trapped in there, or there could be camps where you can get quests from people. The reason for the quests could be to find a way out or to investigate strange sounds. I also thought about companions and pets to help you while you fight your way through these dungeons, or it could be that you and a party of people go around to conquer dungeons.
